The rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the most significant advancement of our time. How AI will change industries and the associated benefits and risks are topics of much interest and debate.
What will change as AI joins our workforce? What jobs will rise and fall? How should we be building 鈥渁gency in AI鈥 among students to prepare the next generation? How might industry, universities, and government partner to keep pace with the pace of change? How do we capitalize on advances to encourage prosperity for all, across the commonwealth and beyond?
These are among the questions we will interrogate at the Atlas of AI Summit.

Summit objectives
Assemble technology thought leaders to enocourage collaboration among academia, government, and industry to explore how we can collectively:
- Bring together different thought leaders to encourage information exchange to define and solve for the next frontier of AI.
- Develop the present and future workforce for the AI digital transformations of tomorrow.
- Address challenges related to the adoption and implementation of artificial intelligence.
- Discuss how best to inform and influence policy to ensure the ethical and responsible use of AI/create awareness about the ethical and responsible use of AI.
- Establish a robust network of AI partners to foster formal and organic AI collboration opportunities and partnerships that drive technology and talent innovation.

Senator Warner was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2008 and reelected to a third term in November 2020. He serves as Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence and as a member of the Senate Finance, Banking, Budget, and Rules Committees. From protecting the highest levels of national security through his work leading the Senate Intelligence Committee, to fighting to expand broadband to every corner of the Commonwealth, Sen. Warner has been a tireless advocate for a safer, stronger, more prosperous 天美传媒.
As CEO of an AI-powered HR operations platform and former president and chairperson for Salesforce, Sarah has over 25 years of experience leading and scaling tech companies and has a unique blend of technical knowledge, business acumen, and marketing expertise in emerging technologies and trends. Franklin works every day to build a better, more equal world and change the ratios in tech and leadership.
Rishi Jaitly has decades of experience in the tech space, having worked for Google, YouTube, and Twitter. Jaitly pairs his understanding of Big Tech with a passion for public service. He has co-founded multiple companies that give back to their communities, including Times Bridge, an investments and partnerships firm with a mission to help the world’s best ideas expand internationally. Rishi founded the 天美传媒 Tech Institute for Leadership in Technology, which offers the world's first executive degree in the humanities.
Prem Natajaran is the chief scientist and head of enterprise AI at Capital One. He has worked at the cutting edge of AI throughout his career, and enjoys leveraging technology advancements to create new capabilities that make a difference in people’s lives. Natajaran previously led the Alexa AI organization as a vice president at Amazon, and currently leads the technology strategy, architecture, and development for Capital One’s enterprise data, analytics, and machine learning initiatives.
With a past as a veterinarian, clinical pharmacologist, teacher, researcher, and academic leader, Clarke has a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is a native of South Africa, but has resided in the U.S. for many years. As an immigrant, he has a high appreciation for the opportunity to advance a career, to serve a community, and to be part of a nation.
Dan Sui is an internationally renowned geographer/GIScientist with research interests focusing on GIS-based spatial analysis and modeling for urban, environmental, and public health applications. Sui is an established researcher and public speaker, having published over 230 scholarly publications and delivered more than 70 keynote speeches on various interdisciplinary topics.
Power of Place
Kathy Hollinger is the chief executive officer of the Greater Washington Partnership and former president and chief executive officer of the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington (RAMW). Under her leadership, RAMW saw 30% growth in revenue and national recognition. She also founded STORYBOARD, a strategic communications firm, and served as DC Film commissioner, driving a significant increase in film industry activity and revenue. Hollinger has been recognized as one of Washington’s most influential business leaders and continues to serve on numerous civic and nonprofit boards.
As Vice President and Head of AI at Pfizer, Subha Madhavan leads the integration of AI/ML to advance clinical trials and digital health technologies across multiple therapy areas. With a robust background in pharma, government, and academia, she has driven large-scale data-driven research programs and pioneered innovations in drug R&D and precision medicine. Madhavan has been a leader advising biopharma and federal clients on strategic R&D and digital health initiatives.
Lama Nachman specializes in Responsible Human AI Collaboration, driving innovative user experiences and applications. 鈥媁ith 28 years of expertise, she leads Intel's Responsible AI program. Noteworthy for collaborating with Professor Stephen Hawking, she advocates for open-source technology benefiting individuals with disabilities, ensuring AI advancements are inclusive and accessible to all.
As Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics & Technology, Young J. Bang advises Army leadership on acquisition matters. With extensive experience in both commercial and federal sectors, he has led growth initiatives across industries, including technology and defense. Previously, he held senior roles at Atlas Research and Booz Allen Hamilton, specializing in cutting-edge technologies and digital transformation. A former Army Captain, Bang's career spans leadership in product development, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic growth. He holds a BS in Leadership and Systems Engineering from West Point.
Panel 1: Data and Decisions
During her tenure, Julie Ross has championed a bold vision for the future of the college, which includes building a more inclusive engineering community, leading to significant growth in the enrollment of underrepresented students. In addition, Ross is also Special Advisor to the President of 天美传媒 Tech, which involves leading a steering committee that guides the university’s presence in the Washington, D.C., metro area in pursuit of the aspiration to be a top-100 global research university.
Naren Ramakrishnan is the founder and director of the Sanghani Center for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics at 天美传媒 Tech. He has created several groundbreaking initiatives such as the Amazon-天美传媒 Tech Initiative in Efficient and Robust Machine Learning and the NSF-sponsored UrbComp Ph.D. certificate program. Numerous organizations have supported his extensive research, and he has advised over 30 PhD students.
Ray Hensberger built his career inventing, leading, and deploying high-impact data products and solutions across commercial and government industries. He has an entrepreneurial passion for building businesses and innovating using cutting-edge emerging technologies, from big data and quantum computing to machine learning and generative AI.
Steve Brown leads the Data Cloud Solution Engineering team at Salesforce. Brown has driven growth for several SaaS companies, creating over $100M in net market value. Steve’s expertise spans sales, services, and product strategy, with key roles in companies like Apiphany (acquired by Microsoft) and Angel.com (acquired by Genesys). Passionate about mentoring and innovation, he also supports DC SCORES through pro bono work, combining his love for soccer with community service.
Erik Breckenfeld is the director of technology policy at NVIDIA, a computing company focused on accelerated computing to help solve some of the world’s toughest problems. Breckenfeld, who is also a physicist and materials scientist, focuses his work on the impact of computing and AI technologies on American competitiveness and security, and is passionate about the ways in which technology plays a key role in societal values and the global economy.
Panel 2: Work-Ready AI Talent
Saonee (pronounced Sha-o-nee) Sarker officially began as dean on July 1, 2023. Dean Sarker brings a wealth of research experience to the Pamplin College of Business. She is the director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for MIS Quarterly, serving as an ambassador for DEI initiatives and senior editor emeritus for the journal. She also is senior editor of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems. Among her research interests are smart infrastructure and sustainability, healthcare information technology and technostress, technology-enabled collaboration, and more.
With over 14 years of experience at the company, Christina McClung has a strong passion for talent acquisition and creating spaces where employees can thrive, with the belief that people who aren’t afraid to take chances are at the center of Capital One’s mission.
Ed Bowen’s leadership focuses on driving innovation and accelerating adoption of AI. He has extensive experience in building organizations that successfully build, test, and validate predictive/statistical and machine learning models with a focus on drug and vaccines development and commercialization. Bowen holds Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering, Business, and Biology, as well as a PhD in Molecular Biology.
Anne Kress began her current role in January 2020, after a career of almost three decades in higher education that includes serving as a tenuredfaculty member in English and in numerous academic administrative roles at community colleges in Florida and New York. At NOVA, Kress focuses on fulfilling the college’s commitment to equity in opportunity and its promise that every student succeeds, every program achieves, and every community prospers.
Eui-Hong (Sam) Han has spearheaded the development of an integrated Big Data platform, advancing personalized content delivery and data-driven decision-making. He has successfully led teams in building AI/ML tools to enhance business analytics and user experience. With deep expertise in AI, machine learning, and data mining, he excels in applying cutting-edge technologies to solve complex business challenges.
Panel 3: The AI of Everything
Myra Blanco is tasked with cultivating opportunities for researchers and developing initiatives in an effort to help VTTI grow. In addition, she is a Senior Faculty Fellow within the 天美传媒 Tech Office of Research and Innovation where she provides leadership for increasing diversity, inclusion, and empowerment for the university’s faculty and staff. Blanco’s areas of expertise include automated driving systems, driver behavior, and safety systems.
Todd Borkey is responsible for overseeing the company’s technology strategy, to include research and development. Prior to this role, he oversaw HII’s Artificial Intelligence campaign, creating market-leading AI/ML solutions for the defense and intelligence markets. Borkey is an accomplished business leader who has excelled in general management, program management, and business expansion.
Lane Dilg is driving the responsible deployment of AI across sectors like education, health, and policy. With over 15 years in the public sector, her experience includes advising on clean energy, managing COVID-19 responses, and prosecuting federal cases. She holds degrees from Yale Law School, Harvard Divinity School, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
As Executive Vice President and Chief Digital Officer at Metro, Judd Nicholson is leading the organization’s digital transformation and technological modernization. Prior to joining Metro in 2023, he served as Vice President and CIO at Georgetown University, where he executed a five-year technology modernization initiative. With leadership roles at the U.S. Marshals Service and the Defense Intelligence Agency, Judd has a proven track record of driving large-scale innovation. He is also a recipient of the 2021 ORBIE Global Capital CIO of the Year award.
Kevin Lane is a principal at Deloitte with over 25 years of experience in risk advisory services. He leads Deloitte’s Regulatory Compliance & Operational Risk practice for government and public services, helping clients meet regulatory and compliance objectives. A recognized public speaker on risk and compliance, Kevin regularly collaborates with industry associations. He holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in Accounting Information Systems from 天美传媒 Tech and numerous professional certifications.
Panel 4: Trust and Assurance
Laura Freeman’s research leverages experimental methods for conducting research that brings together cyber-physical systems, data science, AI, and machine learning to address critical challenges in national security. Her roles also include a hub faculty member in the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative—leading research in AI Assurance—and the Assistant Dean for Research for the College of Science.
Elham Tabassi leads NIST’s Trustworthy and Responsible AI program and helps guide the strategic direction for AI research, standards, and testing. She also serves as vice-chair of the OECD working party on AI Governance and is a fellow of the Washington Academy of Sciences. With over two decades of experience, she is a leader in AI governance and biometrics.
Randy Soper is a thought leader and implementation expert in human-machine teaming, AI assurance, digital transformation, and data science-mission integration. In this role, he is the executive lead for the Advanced Analytics Platform, an Inflation Reduction Act modernization initiative supporting the scalability of AI and Trustworthy AI controls for all mission domains. Soper holds decades of experience in digital transformation and data science.
Michelle Lopes Maldonado is an American politician serving in the 天美传媒 House of Delegates from the 20th district as a member of the Democratic Party. She has a background in law, technology, and business and is known for her inclusive approach, advocating for the rights and resources of various communities. Michelle is also the Founding Chair of the General Assembly's bipartisan and bicameral Technology & Innovation Caucus and is actively involved in AI work groups at both the state and national level.
As Chief AI Officer for Microsoft Federal, Wole Moses helps federal government leaders harness AI to transform and enhance agency processes. With over 25 years in technology, he has driven digital transformation in both public and commercial sectors, successfully leading teams to modernize digital services. Wole is dedicated to transforming government processes and enhancing citizen services through AI-driven solutions.
